We meet weekly to discuss the emerging science behind the social and economic networks. Humans, financial institutions, and companies interact with each other through an elaborate mesh of relationships. These entities’ (or agents’) behavior is influenced by their relationships, while their relationships might form due to their behavior. We are interested to understand and address questions arising from interplay between networks and agent behaviour: How does network structure impact agents’ behavior and actions? How and why do networks form? Why do networks exhibit specific patterns? How does information diffuse or leaning occur in networks?
Our meetings welcome all faculty, graduate students, and advanced undergraduates at the University of Waterloo. Over Fall 2016, we studied Social and Economic Networks by Matthew Jackson (the book cover is presented on right). We are currently studying some recent papers on this topic. The timeline and reading schedule is presented below with the schedule updated as needed. Our meetings are held at the Artificial Intelligence lab located in DC 2306C, Wednesday 9:30am--11am. If you are interested, please sign up to our mailing list.
