Instructions for Oral Presentations

By now, you should have decided which of the authors of your paper will speak. Here is what the speaker needs to know:

  • Session: Check the CVPR Advance Program web page for the day, time and session of your presentation. Note that the designations 'A' and 'B' have been swapped for some sessions from the earlier, Preliminary Program web page.
  • Timing: 22 minutes have been allocated to each presentation, including speaker setup, talk and question period. Each speaker can talk for a maximum of 19 minutes, including speaker setup time. Session chairs are instructed to cut off speakers at that point. Session chairs will then allow some time for questions. We strongly suggest that you practice and time your talk before coming to the meeting to make sure your talk is not too long.
  • Important: Please be at your meeting room at least 15 minutes before the start of your session. Introduce yourself to your session chair, get any last-minute instructions from him/her, and make sure your laptop works. In particular, all speakers must verify before the session begins that the laptop & projector work together. Timing is tight and therefore delays in setting up your laptop after the session starts will decrease the time you have for your talk!
  • Presentation aids: There will be an overhead projector, a VHS VCR, and one laptop projector available. The VCR will only accept NTSC tapes; if your originals use a different video standard, make sure you convert your tapes to NTSC before coming to the conference. Laser pointers will also be available.
  • Laptop projector: Laptop projectors have a maximum resolution of 1280x1024 (SXGA). The laptop projector's input is a 15 pin VGA port. The Lecture Hall has HDTV projection capabilities (please contact Chuck Stewart for details).
  • Meeting rooms: You can find the floorplan and pictures of the meeting spaces here. Oral 'A' Sessions will be held in the Hall of Ideas (combining sections E,H,F,I) on Level 4. Oral 'B' sessions will be held in the Lecture Hall on the same level.
  • Font size: Note that presentation rooms will be up to 150 feet long (50m). You must therefore make sure to use large enough fonts so that your slides are readable from the back of the room. In particular, please keep font sizes to 22pt or larger.
  • Speaker Prep Room: Meeting Room K on Level 4 will be available to authors that wish to practice their talk on-site. There will be a reservation sheet outside the room door where authors can reserve the room for 40 minute blocks.
  • Wireless ethernet: Note that wireless ethernet connectivity is available throughout the building, including the session rooms. There will be no wireless encryption. Authors will use SSID. Logins will be given at registration. Since many people may use it, authors should not count on a high-bandwidth connection.

Instructions for Poster Presentations

  • Timing: All posters assigned to a specific day must be mounted before Poster Session A and should remain mounted until the end of Poster Session B.
  • Session: To facilitate interactions between attendees and poster presenters, posters have been divided into two groups, A and B. To find out which group your poster is in, check the Advance Program web page. Presenters are expected to be at their posters during their group's poster session (A or B).
  • Important: For greater exposure of posters and poster presenters, posters will be up for the entire day regardless of the group they are in. Presenters may wish to be at their poster for both poster sessions of the day.
  • Poster boards: Each poster board is 4 feet high by 6 feet wide. Push pins and tacks can be used to mount posters on these boards.
  • Tables, chairs, etc: There will be a chair, a table and a power supply next to each poster, in case you want to show a laptop demo.
  • VCR: If sufficient demand exists, we may supply VCR/TV combinations for the poster session. Please email Kyros Kutulakos if you need them. While using a VCR is possible, we would like to discourage their use because they add extra cost to the meeting and do not fit well with the meeting space. We recommend you use a laptop for showing videos, if at all possible.
  • Meeting room: You can find the floorplan of the meeting spaces here. All poster sessions will take place in the Grand Terrace on Level 4, in front of the session rooms (point your mouse over the 'View 3' link in the 'Pre-Function Space' category of the floorplan page to see a photo).
  • Wireless ethernet: Note that wireless ethernet connectivity is available throughout the building, including the session rooms. There will be no wireless encryption. Authors will use SSID. Logins will be given at registration. Since many people may use it, authors should not count on a high-bandwidth connection.
