Grading for Graduate Students
On each exam, there will be problem(s) that are clearly marked as being for graduate students only. These will be slightly more challenging problems, and will only count towards the grade of a graduate student taking this course. For the course project, we expect a project from grad students that is more mature or has a research angle to it.
Policy on special considerations
If you are unable to appear for an exam due to major illness or other circumstances completely outside of your control, please contact your instructor before the exam to receive special consideration. Note that special consideration will be considered on an individual basis and will not be given automatically —– in other words, you risk getting a mark of zero for missed work unless you contact your instructor within a reasonable time frame.
Policy on remarking requests
Since the project is due close to the end of the term, and time is short at that stage, we ask you to submit the remark request for a project within 3 working days of receiving your project mark. This way, we will have enough time to do a back-and-forth with you if necessary and not miss the end-of-term deadline for the grades.
The remark requests for exams should be submitted instantly when you pick up your exam paper. We will bring the marked exam papers to the next tutorial/office-hour slot to distribute. We do this for two sessions in a row and not longer. You are responsible to pick up your marked exam paper during one of these two opportunities and submit your request for a remark back to the TA in charge, written on the exam paper in the dedicated space. You may choose never to pick up your exam paper, because the grades would go online as well. But, you will forfeit asking for a remark request if you make this choice.
Note that each marked work has to go back to the person who has marked it for consistency and fairness across the board. So, we cannot give you an instance response on the day.
