Welcome!

On this page, you will find exercises that should be used to test your understanding of Professor Faith Ellen's video lectures. These exercises have been designed to complement the lectures and may sometimes point out subtleties in the material that are not obvious from the examples given in the slides. So, even though they are optional, you are highly encouraged to complete these exercises after viewing each lecture (and perhaps again later when studying for the exam).

Each video lecture has an accompanying online quiz, which can be accessed using the menu at the top of the page. These are not the same as the in-class quizzes, which are mandatory and count towards your final grade.

Sample:

Usually, before each group of questions, there will be a block of text like this giving specific instructions that apply for the group. So, for the next question, you should assume that \(a=5\) and \(b=3\). Also, since these online quizzes don't count for anything, feel free to click on the wrong answers too! Each answer has a custom response, usually to explain why a particular answer is wrong, or to justify why an answer is correct.

1. What is the value of \(a*b\)?

INCORRECT! Just... incorrect.

INCORRECT! Thankfully, or else the ring of integers would not be an integral domain! (feel free to ignore that comment)

CORRECT! For more complicated questions, there might be some additional comments/explanation given here.

INCORRECT! Go back and read the instructions for the values of \(a\) and \(b\).
