Zixin (Jenci) Wei
Engineering Analyst at Goldman Sachs, Student Researcher at Vector Institute

I’m Jenci, a full-time engineering analyst at Goldman Sachs. Graduated from the University of Toronto with a 4.00/4.00 cumulative GPA, my primary focus is on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. My passion in this field has been a driving force throughout my academic journey, and I was recently awarded the Daniel Berlin Scholarship by the University of Toronto, recognizing excellence in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Last summer, I had the opportunity to intern at Goldman Sachs’ Engineering team, which I received a return offer and now I work there :)
I am channeling my interest in AI into a research project on computational histopathology, under the guidance of Prof. Rahul Krishnan at the Vector Institute. The goal of this project is to answer the following questions:
- How can machine learning improve our understanding of colorectal cancer?
- Following (1), how can we leverage such understanding into clinical decision-making?
To address (1), I implemented large computational pathology models to embed medical images (histopathology slides) and applied a vision transformer for specific tasks, such as predicting the health condition of patients. To understand the image embeddings, I implemented attention rollout to identify which areas of the slides do those models focus on. For (2), I am currently working on building a causal model that can predict the effect of chemotherapy treatment on colorectal cancer patients. I look forward to sharing the results of this project soon!
