Graduate Skills Seminar Series 2014-5

Organized by: Steve Easterbrook, Sanja Fidler, Renee Miller, and Raquel Urtasun

The graduate skills seminars are designed to help grad students in DCS to develop the skills needed for a successful time in grad school and beyond. Graduate school -- and academia, and life -- require balancing many different skills, tasks, and goals. Many of these skills are things you might not have even realized were important when you signed up for grad school, and your advisor probably hasn't had the time to explain all of them to you either. These seminars are meant to provide pointers and guidance about these crucial skills. The topics will vary from introductory (e.g., Welcome to grad school) to more advanced (e.g., faculty job search) but everyone in the department, including curious undergrads, is welcome to attend any of them.

Seminars are held on Tuesday mornings at 11am in room BA1170. The seminars are meant to be very interactive, with a lot of discussion and Q&A. They will last 60-90 minutes, depending on discussion. Note: this is the same room and timeslot as our distinguished lecture series; the grad skills seminars will only occur on weeks when there is no visiting speaker.
