Erindale submit from home instructions
The following instructions describe the process of submitting an
assignment electronically from home.
The primary focus of this document is submission of program solution
files in either the CSC 108 and CSC 148 courses.
The names "submit" or "hand-in" will be used interchangably, they both
refer to the same
operation.
Instructions
- You will need an ftp client installed and working on your home
machine (or whatever
machine you intend to submit your work from). Installing and using
this is your own
responsibility. A simple command line utility is included in many
current OS's (Win 9x,
Linux, OS/2 Warp). Try typing "ftp tuzo.erin.toronto.edu" at a
command line prompt.
Fetch is a common ftp client
for MacOS
machines. Ws_ftp is for Windows from Ipswitch. There is a free version of
WS_FTP
for academic users. They sell a pro version from their
website.
- Connect to the server, "tuzo.erin.toronto.edu".
- Login with your account name and password.
- Change directory to:
/student/submithome/{course_number}/{assignment_number}/{your_login}
where
- {course_number} is csc108h or csc148h,
- {assignment_number} for assignment 0 is a0, and
- {your_login} might be e0f2m2wm
for example: /student/submithome/csc108h/a0/e0f2m2wm
- Transfer the files from your local machine to the server, read the
lab instructions for more
details. "Binary" mode is recommended if your home machine runs
Windows, "ascii" for
MacOS.
Some pointers:
- Use a real ftp client, not Netscape or some other browser.
(netscape
tries to logon as
"anonymous" )
-
Logins are case sensitive -- logins are all lower case.
