In the not-too-distant future...

Mystery Science Theater (sic) 3000 (i.e., MST3K) was a TV show that ran from 1988 to 1999 in which our heroes (Joel Robinson in the first several seasons, Mike Nelson by the end) and their robot pals Gypsy, Crow T. Robot, and Tom Servo are forced by "The Mads" to watch really bad movies in the Satellite of Love (SoL), which is a spaceshippy thing. The show consists of brief skits on the SoL, but essentially involves the silhouetted protagonists sitting in a theatre in front of said movies and making assorted wisecracks, which tend to be hilarity-based.
