Writing for the sake of it

Remove expectations from the process

"For example, when I thought of a great subject for a blog post, I often found myself thinking ‘That’s a good idea, save it for another day.’ Why? Why delay? I needed to trust that there would be more, that I would have great ideas in the future and so should use my best stuff now.’"
Gretchen Rubin, The Happiness Project

I have been doing a good job with this for the past two weeks. Every day I follow a process. It allows me to bypass the exhaustive decision-making dilemma of “what should I write about”. Instead, I open my eReader, go through the highlights of the current book I’m reading, and choose anything that I find particularly interesting at that moment. With no questions asked, no expectations on whether I should “save it” for when I have more experience, just writing about what I feel like writing that day.

I need to keep this in mind though. Knowing myself, it’s very likely that my perfectionist side will try to take control of this process and start wondering if some specific topic is the right one or not. For now—and that will probably take a while since I’m very interested in how this whole new process unfolds in the long run—, I will keep approaching these writings with no expectations whatsoever, because I want to, and because I can.
