Getting better by the day
Avoid the best as a goal

"Neither a scientist nor a philosopher but a novelist, Lisa Grunwald, came up with a brilliant summation of this happiness principle: ‘Best is good, better is best’."
—Gretchen Rubin, The Happiness Project
This resonates with much of what I have been reading lately: it is not about the end goal, but about the process to get there. We usually fall in the trap of thinking that once we are at the top we will be satisfied. However, a lot of people tend to agree that it is not about reaching it, but the fact that we are getting better and better by the day, which fills us with satisfaction.
I think with this process that I’m following—my habit-tracking system—I’m hitting that point. In the past two weeks I’ve found that keeping an explicit process has made my days way more productive and enjoyable. No more “what should I do now?” questions that more often than not were followed by “I don’t know so let’s go to a social media app while I figure it out”. Two weeks into this and I’m more confident of it, so I will keep going to see how far I get to, because I want to, and because I can.
Note-to-self: I should probably turn my habit-tracker system into an app… I’ve found that the ones out there are not great for seeing your progress and your streaks in a user-friendly way and showing you all of them at the same time… time to learn how to develop apps I guess hahah.
