Keeping the streaks
The everyday dilemma

"As Andy Warhol observed, ‘Either once only or every day. If you do something once it’s exciting, and if you do it every day it’s exciting. But if you do it, say, twice or just almost every day, it’s not good any more’."
—Gretchen Rubin, The Happiness Project
I think this is a good piece of advice. Although, as with many, one has to take it with a grain of salt and adjust it to oneself. In my case, I’d say I agree with it by 99%. The reason why is that I see how keeping a streak of doing something everyday is very much rewarding. Even if once in a while I don’t have much time or energy to do something fully, I still enjoy doing it partially. Nonetheless, I think that life is not perfect and there will be days when it’s impossible to accomplish such a task… and that’s okay.
For me, I’ve been following a habit-tracking system for the past week and I have to admit it is very fulfilling seeing the days get marked each day. If it’s been 9 days and I already don’t want to break the streak, I can only imagine how it will feel when that number gets way bigger. However, I know sometimes it just won’t be possible and—I hope—I won’t beat myself too much about it.
