This web page contains files that relate to the University of Toronto Women's Hockey Team. This hockey team has competed formally since 1922, but was around even before then! Here is a brief history of the team as well as a little bit of information about the 95-96 season's squad. Information for the 1997-98 squad is also available.
The University of Toronto women's hockey team competes in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) league (note that the league used to be the OWIAA league). The other universities in the league are Guelph, York, Windsor, Laurier, and Queen's.
The first-ever CIAU Women's Hockey National Championship was held at the end of the 1997-98 season. The winner within each of the four regions in Canada compete for the national (CIAU) title at the end of each season. Women hockey players will now have to follow the standard 5-year eligibility rule. This year's National Championship was held at Concordia University from February 26th until March 1st, 1998. Congratulations to the University of Toronto who won the silver medal! Two Blues were selected to the CIAU All-Canadian All-Star Team!
Here are the 1997-98 OUA Championship results. During the 1996-97 season, the Blues placed first in regular season play (with a record of 12-1-2), but lost 3-2 in double overtime in the OUA final against the University of Guelph.
Here are the 1996-97 OWIAA Championship results. During the 1996-97 season, the Blues placed first in regular season play (with a record of 13-0-2), but lost 3-2 in double overtime in the OWIAA final against York University.
In 1995-96, the Blues defeated the University of Guelph Gryphons by a score of 2-1 in triple overtime, to claim the 1995-96 OWIAA Championship. Here's a censored picture of us celebrating with the OWIAA banner!! :-) :-)

December 9th 1997: Backed by star defense Sophie Radecki and Karen short-shift Hughes on forward the Alumni team put on an impressive performance against the Blues on Tuesday night. As the Alumni team was short on bodies, Michelle Rosenberg and Stephanie Campbell volunteered to help their cause. The final score was 5-1 in the Alumni team's favour. The Blues had an impressive V-Formation play that almost shocked the elderly Alumni team into cardiac arrest!
September 1997: Three players of the Varsity Blues have been selected to train at the Team Canada Olympic training camp in Calgary from September 1997 until February 1998. These players will not be competing with the Blues this season. These players are: Lori Dupuis, Jayna Hefford, and Laura Schuler. Other former blues who will compete for Team Canada at the 1998 Olympics are Vicky Sunohara and Lesley Reddon. Laurie Taylor-Bolton, a former Blue, will be a women's hockey referee at the 1998 Winter Olympics.
November 24, 1996: Keely Brown, a goaltender for the University of Toronto Hockey Team, is the OWIAA athlete of the week. The native of Kitchener, Ontario posted her fourth consecutive shut-out of the season with a 7-0 win over Guelph. Brown made several key saves throughout the game to preserve her 0.0 goals against average. Keely is a 2nd year arts and science student.
