Hi, I’m Zhewei, a computer science Ph.D. candidate at the University of Toronto working with Professor Yang Xu in the Computational Lingusitics Group. I am broadly interested in natural language processing, computational lingusitics, and computational social science.
In particular, I am interested in building NLP systems that are both robust and fair toward informal language such as slang, adhering to principles from both linguistics and cognitive science. At the same time, I am also interested in studying the social, cognitive, and linguistic mechanisms behind slang usage and incorporate such insights toward building context-aware NLP systems.
