A Worthy Successor A successor to Beethoven was Johnnes Brahms. Also as a prodigy, he was the object of vitriolic attacks from other composers because of the individuality of his works. They heaped invective upon him for the intensively emotional quality and Germanic styles in his writings. However, it was impossible to besmirch his talents for long. He produced voluminous varieties of compositions. He soon was one of the most popular composer in Europe. Today, in retrospect, his originality is appreciated, and he is placed among the top romantic composers. to bring down the house--The Beatles could be counted on to bring down the house at every public performance.
