April 18, 2007:
As you should realize, we're approaching exam season.
In the next couple of days, I will make a post about
office hours for next week and the week after . I will
also be scheduling a review
session, as promised; I have this pencilled in for
April 25th, so now would be a good time to let me
know about conflicts.
April 11, 2007:
I forgot to mention this in class, but last week was
the last scheduled tutorial. So no tutorial
tomorrow. We do, however, still
have lecture (where we will be covering the last of
the
testable material and, if time permits,
we'll talk about the
exam.)
April 10, 2007:
For those of you who have perhaps not been religiously
attending lectures, there are two points on A5 Q4 that
you should be aware of:
- You only need to give the diagram of your FSA.
You're welcome to give a written explanation as well,
but
it's not required.
- As has been mentioned a couple of times in class, if
we ask you to produce a FSA without further
detail, we do expect you to draw a deterministic FSA.
That means that your solutions for Q4 should be
deterministic.
March 30, 2007:
The complete A5 is now up.
March 29, 2007:
A partial version of A5 has been posted. A final
version will be posted sometime tomorrow. (The
remaining questions are on things we haven't
discussed yet.)
March 25, 2007:
- As was discussed in class last week, I'm giving you
one extra day for A4, so it is now due at 10:00am
on Thursday, March 29 (or 10:00am on Friday March 30
if you plan to use your grace day). This does
not change the deadline for A5.
- A (so far very brief) FAQ for A4 is now up
here.
- Solutions for A3 and the midterm have been posted.
- A very short breakdown of the marking scheme for A3
is up here.
March 20, 2007:
The complete version of A4 is now up.
March 8, 2007:
The last question for A3 has been posted.
March 1, 2007:
- The first half of assignment 3 has been posted.
- A number of you have asked about the solution to
question 3 on assignment 2. I'm delighted that
you're curious, but the bad news is that
(as much as I hate to admit this) we've found an error
in my solution. We'll get a working proof up as soon
as we find it.
February 27, 2007:
- I will hold some last minute office hours tomorrow
from 2-4. For those of you who perhaps have questions
but missed my scheduled hours today...
- You can find a summary of the topics covered in
lecture and tutorial here.
February 24, 2007:
- Some more information regarding the midterm has been posted.
Check details to make sure you know where you need to be
and when you need to be there.
- Solutions for A1 have been posted. Partial solutions for A2
have also been posted; we should have a final version by
tomorrow.
February 7, 2007:
- The midterm will be held in class on the first
Thursday after reading week (March 1st).
- Assignment 1 has been marked (and you guys did a
good job on it) and will hopefully be returned in
tutorials tomorrow.
- New tutorial sections are

- BA2175 - Honeywell to Park, Sotirov to Zhang
January 18, 2007:
