I'm a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto, working with Sheila McIlraith. I’m also affiliated with the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence and the Schwartz Reisman Institute for Technology and Society.

I've worked on a number of topics in artificial intelligence, often involving some combination of logic, modelling beliefs, and reinforcement learning. Recently I've been working in the area of AI safety, in particular on the problem of avoiding side effects from incomplete objective specifications. I also run the Toronto AI safety mailing list (see the AI Safety in Toronto page for more information).

I completed my PhD and master’s degrees at the University of Toronto, supervised by Sheila McIlraith and Hector Levesque. I did my undergrad at the University of Calgary, where I focused more on theoretical computer science. I was also on the team representing the University of Calgary at the world finals of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest in 2013.
