  • Knowledge of biology is not required, however as you will be working on a team knowledge of software engineering methodologies (version control, etc) is required
  • Prior experience with one or more of CSS, Javascript, SQL, and Java is an advantage.

Brief project description:

We are working with clinicians and scientists at the Hospital for Sick Children to build an extensive phenotype database of all patients that are tested for genetic disorders. This database needs to support complex queries based on the observed disorder manifestations, feature extensive security to support patient data, and be connected to an easy-to-use user interface to support data-entry by clinicians.

We have built a prototype of this software using Java, Javascript, and mySQL. As part of this research project you will be responsible for further integration of the prototype with biomedical ontologies, such as the Human Phenotype Ontologies, further User Interface improvements, and working with clinicians to identify additional enhancements.
