Pictures from Vologda.
Vologda (40 degrees of eastern longitude, 59 degrees of northern
latitude), an old Russian city is located approximately 450kms to the north
from
Moscow.
- Past and present of
Vologda. The site
was constructed by Zhanna Podolyak, an exchange student from
the Vologda State Pedagogical University (she is studying in
Louisville, KY, USA). You will find there beautiful pictures of the
St. Sophia Cathedral, Spaso-Prilutsky Monastery, etc. She writes about
her hometown:
"The white fluffy smoke rises to the sky from the chimneys of the wooden
houses on the opposite bank of the river. The further away I go from the
business district of the city , the quieter it becomes and the fewer signs
of the modern technology are visible . Now I don't hear the noise of
the city traffic, and peace and tranquillity come into my mind.
The sensation of time becomes blurred, and I can no longer say what
time I belong to - 20th century ? 19th ? I don't know - it all could
be happening 300 years ago." Send comments to Zhanna Podolyak:
