Teaching-related experience
I sometimes take on roles that are related to, but not quite, teaching a course. Here is a summary of “other” experiences I have had related to teaching in the department.
Role | Main contribution | Year |
---|---|---|
CMP1 Advisor | Advising first-year CS students | 2021-2022 |
Undergraduate Liaison | Leading “Advising Hubs” for CS students | 2022-2023 |
Undergraduate Liaison | Working closely with our DCS ambassadors | 2023-2024 |
During my tenure as CMP1 (“comp one”) advisor, I met with many different first-year CS students in virtual one-on-one meetings. The meetings gave me insights into the goals and mindset of my students after a difficult pandemic year. And these insights turned out to be a key catalyst for the In the Loop podcast.
As the Undergraduate Liaison in back-to-back years, I played a key role in several departmental events and programs including our annual Welcome to the Program event and Alumni-Student Mentorship Program. I also helped the undergraduate office plan, implement, and lead several workshops and panels each year.
The 2023-2024 academic year was the first time our DCS ambassadors transitioned from volunteers to employees through the Work-Study Program. Along with staff from the undergraduate office (hi Katy), we met regularly throughout the year on various events and initiatives. We also launched a new DCS Ambassadors website with relevant and helpful content for current and prospective undergraduate CS students.
