CSSU Teaching Award - Winter 2022
I received a wonderful email from the CSSU that I am the recipient of the CSSU Teaching Award for Winter 2022. A special thank you to all my students for their participation in and out of the classroom - it helps me as a teacher to have conversations with you across several different mediums. And I am so fortunate to have students who took the time to nominate me for the award. It really did take me by surprise!

Hi Professor Badr,
On behalf of the CS community and CSSU, congratulations on winning the CSSU Teaching Award Winter 2022! Thank you sincerely for your efforts and your outstanding contributions to the CS community, particularly through first-year courses CSC110, CSC111. On behalf of the CSSU, I am honoured to present the CSSU Teaching Award Certificate to you. The certificate is attached in this email.
We received a total of 101 nominations, 77 of which are for Prof. Badr. I have included below some words of appreciation from the students who participated in the nomination.

Comments from nominators #
The email included many comments from student nominators. All nominators had taken (or were taking?) CSC110Y1 and/or CSC111H1 with me. The comments were wonderful to read! Here are two examples that always lift my spirits:
He made the transition between online and in-person courses very smooth. Aside from that, he always has a positive attitude and makes jokes which keep students interested. He really cares about his students’ success, and makes you feel seen and heard even in a lecture with 200+ people.
And,
Professor Badr cares a lot about his students and always spends the time to answer all my questions in office hours. His teaching is clear and easy to understand and the assignments are challenging but also interesting.
