I recently received a macbook which I didn’t have an account on, so I found the following instructions for resetting the password (from<\/p>\n

Reset 10.5 Leopard password<\/h4>\n

  1. Power on or restart your Mac.<\/li>\n
  2. At the chime (or grey screen if your chime is turned off), hold down Command+S on your keyboard to enter single-user mode.<\/li>\n
  3. This step is optional, but it\u2019s a good idea because it checks the consistency of the hard disk before moving on. At the prompt, type fsck -fy<\/strong> and press Enter\/Return. Wait for the checks to complete before going to the next step.<\/li>\n
  4. Type mount -uw \/<\/strong> and press Enter.<\/li>\n
  5. Type launchctl load \/System\/Library\/LaunchDaemons\/com.apple.DirectoryServices.plist<\/strong> and press Enter.<\/li>\n
  6. Type ls \/Users<\/strong> and press Enter. This lists all of the usernames on the computer \u2013 helpful if you don\u2019t know or remember what these are.<\/li>\n
  7. Type dscl . -passwd \/Users\/username password<\/strong> and replace \u201cusername\u201d with one of the users displayed in the previous step. Replace \u201cpassword\u201d with a new password of your choice. Press Enter.<\/li>\n
