Policy on Electronic Correspondence

  1. For each assignment, a TA will be assigned to answer questions. Please send your questions about each assignment to the assigned TA. Answers that would be important to everyone will be posted to the web site.

  2. Please use only your CDF account for sending emails. Do NOT use yahoo/gmail/etc.

  3. Please do NOT send messages that include HTML or MIME, since plain text (ASCII) is the standard for electronic communication. Click here to see why and to find out how to turn off HTML and MIME.

  4. Please use an appropriate Subject Line by following these instructions:
     *All subjects
    must start with "[CSC384]"
     * For assignment/test add their corresponding number (eg A1, T2, etc)
     * For lecture or general inquiries about the course add word "Gen" .
     * For example, to request clarification about q2 of A3, you may send an email to
the TA  with a subject line like "[CSC384] A3 q2 clarify solveProb predicate". Or, if you have a medical problem, you may send me an email with the subject "[CSC384] Gen cannot attend T2".
     * Note that a good subject line helps us prioritize messages, and avoids it from being misclassified as spam!

  5.  In the body of the message, include your name and student number.

  6. Don't wait until the last minute to ask! Please be patient: although I (and for assignments, your TAs) try to respond to all messages promptly, it can take up to one (sometimes two) business day(s) to answer, depending on how busy I or TAs are and how many e-mail messages we are receiving.

  7. A silent policy will take effect 24 hours before each assignment is due, i.e. no question related to the assignment will be answered during this period.

  8. Do not be discouraged from asking questions!  Try to answer your questions first yourself (thinking about them, looking in the textbook or notes, checking online documentation, etc.), as you will probably learn even more doing so. Putting in your effort first will mean your question will be more precise, and you will get a better reply faster.
