David Francis is an EngSci ECE student currently pursuing CS masters. Game master, a capella singer, tea enthusiast.
Tianhang Zheng is a PhD student in Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research is focused on Deep Learning, Adversarial Learning, and Differential Privacy. He has contributed multiple publications to these research fields. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball or travelling.
Wendy Wang is a part-time ECE MEng student at the University of Toronto and full-time Software Engineer at Intel. She enjoys watching anime and playing League of Legends.
Haochen (Paul) Wang is a third-year EngSci in the physics option, currently using a lot of python in molecular property calculations. He is open to chat about computerese (python, C, Linux, or even Latex, what have you), engsci life, physics, or just life in general! He is also a Real Madrid fan and enjoys playing Touhou games.
Yuehuan He is a second-year MASc student at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. His research is focused on financial optimization and the application of machine learning in finance. He received his BSci degree in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from Beijing Normal University.
Zoe Chen is a 3rd year Engineering Science student who majored in Robotics. She interned at Google in summer 2020, writing Java and JavaScript (yet Python is her favorite). Zoe enjoys reading stories/legends about UNIX, GNU, and the open-source movement in her free time.
Samantha Unger is a third year Engineering Science student, pursuing the robotics option and a minor in bioengineering. She has been engaged with research looking at synthetic biology and selective peripheral nerve recording, though not simultaneously. Outside of academics, Samantha enjoys planning this year's Engineering Science Education Conference and exploring Toronto to try new ice cream flavours.
Alireza Ghadimi is a person who finds his interests in data science and programming after a long survey around several subjects. Alireza is a Biomedical Engineer and he is working on the analysis of brain data. He is a chef who hates cooking and he usually goes biking every weekend.
Danial Hasan is a 4th Year student in Engineering Science, majoring in Machine Intelligence. He is interested in multi agent reinforcement learning, with a focus on designing agents that can cooperate with each other. In his spare time, he enjoys hanging out with his friends, reading, running, and drinking coffee.
Chen (Bob) Cui is an EngSci 2T0 + PEY currently finishing his fourth year in the Machine Intelligence option. He worked for a full year at Epson Canada doing computer vision research and development, and currently he is a research assistant at the Vector Institute. Outside of class, he enjoys listening to K-Pop, rock climbing, and baking.
Cindy Bui is a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering. Her research involves image processing of two-photon microscopy images.
Eric Huang is a Master's student in the MIE department. His research focuses on engineering machine learning algorithms to create adaptive financial models for institutional asset managers. Previously, he specialized in Mathematics, Statistics and Finance in EngSci.
Frank Nemeth is a MASc student in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research is focused on detecting drowsiness while driving at night using the DriverLab simulator at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music, drawing and gaming.
Cindy Ding is a fourth-year Engineering Science student majoring in ECE. She is interested in designing assistive technologies and will be working on making music videos more accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing community for her fourth-year thesis. In her free time, Cindy enjoys rock climbing, ballet, and skiing in the winter.
Jeffrey Qiu is pursuing his M.A.Sc. degree at the Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, focusing in the field of computer vision and image processing. Prior to starting his master's program, he obtained a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Science (class of 1T9+PEY) at the University of Toronto. He is here to sympathize and eager to help!
Ariel Kelman is a first year graduate student in the physics department, working with Prof John Sipe on quantum optics. He is an EngSci 1T9+PEY. He enjoys reading philosophy, playing chess, and working on miscellaneous other projects whenever he has time.
Mehdi Ataei holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology. He is currently a senior PhD candidate in the department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. His research is focused on the development of software and numerical solutions for the simulation of multiphase flows and the modeling of foaming phenomena in collaboration with Autodesk Inc. In addition, he has developed machine learning algorithms for physics-based simulation of fluid-fluid and fluid-solid interactions that are more accurate and faster than traditional methods. He is also the co-founder and CTO the software company Examify.
Kimia Hadian is a second-year Master student in Biomedical Engineering. Her research focuses on the application of data science and activity recognition in smart hand hygiene monitoring systems used in healthcare settings. In her free time Kimia enjoys dancing salsa and hiking.
Matthew Zhang is an EngSci 2T0 who is now pursuing a MS in Computer Science at the University of Toronto. His focus is machine learning, and complexity theory. He enjoy eating, writing, and playing many video games in his spare time.
Nhien Tran-Nguyen is a second-year MASc student in Biomedical Engineering. She is currently conducting cardiovascular research in applying computational fluid dynamics to better understand the mechanisms behind coronary artery bypass graft remodeling and failure. In her free time, she enjoys trying new recipes, a hobby she (unavoidably) picked up during quarantine.
Louis Luo is an EngSci 1T9+PEY and a first-year MASc student in Industrial Engineering at TIDEL. His research focuses on developing intelligent and scalable optimization solvers for the manufacturing industry. In his spare time, he enjoys producing his own music tracks and cheering on the Raptors in front of his TV.

Professor

Michael is available during his office hours Mondays 5pm-6pm, Thursday 9pm-10pm on Zoom.
Michael Guerzhoy taught in EngSci on and off since 2007. Recently, he's been as a lecturer Center for Statistics and Machine Learning at Princeton University, and a Senior Data Scientist at St. Michael's Hospital. He's also an affiliate scientist at the Li Ka Shing Knowldge Institute at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto and an assistant professor (status only) at the Dept. of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto. Michael teaches data science, computer science, and machine learning and applies data science and machine learning to improve patient care. He also enjoys taking on data science consulting projects on the side. When not working, Michael likes to sing, sometimes about grading.
