The i* Framework aim

The objective of this research is to develop a richer conceptual fraemwork for modelling processes which invovle multiple participants (including human and computer), so that one can have a more systematic reengineering process. This includes: identifying a set of modelling features for describing processes and the rationales behind them; providing formal representational constructs and their semantics; indentifying some analytical capabilities; and outlining a design framework.(p3)

The aim of the framework is to provide modelling features, which can lead to semi-automated support facilities to help human users express, manipulate, organize, manage, and draw conclusions from this knowledge. (p6)

The approach taken in this work focuses on strategic relationships among intentional agents in open, distributed, and evolving organizational settings. (p6)

The framework provides features to help describe processes ("modelling") and to guide change ("reengineering"). (p6)

The framework is intended to provide interactive support for an argumentative style of reasoning, not fully automated reasoning. It is assumed that the type of strategic reasoning being supported is largely a judgemential, iterative process, frequently based on incomplete knowledge. (p6)
