PlagiarismEach year, especially in first-year courses, the University prosecutes a significant number of students for Academic Offences. You must familiarize yourself with the University's Code of Behaviour on Academic Matters. For exercises, the work you submit must be your own. For assignments with a partner, the work must be only that of you and your parnter. In particular, you may not discuss or show any part of your assignment work (including any rough work) to anyone else except me or your TA, until 24 hours after the due time. Most students who commit an offence by looking at someone else's work report that they did so out of panic shortly before the assignment was due, often because university is the first time they faced not getting close to perfect on every exercise/assignment. So seek out help early if you are having difficulties. Also, accepting a zero is better than the penalty for submitting plagiarized work, which usually is at least double the entire assignment weight. Late PolicyYou have two "grace days" to use during the term:
twice in the term you may submit an exercise or assignment up to 24 hours late. Exercise 1This first exercise is a straightforward application of the the material covered by lectures during the "add week": up to and including the lecture of Monday 14 September. Exercise 2This second exercise is still mainly a straightforward application of the material, up to and including today's lecture. It does require you to search through a (small) number of equivalent ways of stating things (which we've covered). Use your time to make sure you are using the meaning of the statements (at least to check your work): make sure the equivalent English statements you produce describe the same situations! And reread the questions carefully to make sure you are doing exactly what is asked. Assignment 1The handout. Due date postponed to: Tuesday 6 October 2009 at Noon. For the assignment you may work with a partner who is taking the course. SubmittingInstructions are in the handout. Note: you will need your T-Card to get into the room(s). |
