Lateness Policy

Late assignments

Unless otherwise specified on the assignment handout or on the Announcements page, all assignments are due on Wednesday by 12:00pm -- noon (see the Important Dates webpage for the exact due dates). Assignments handed in late will be penalized by subtracting a certain penalty from your mark, while assignments handed in early will be rewarded by adding a certain bonus to your mark. The bonuses and penalties will be computed as follows, as a percentage of the total marks for the assignment (i.e., bonuses and penalties are independent of the mark obtained):

Time of Submission Bonus/Penalty
by 12:00pm on Tuesday +5%
by 12:00pm on Wednesday 0%
by 5:00pm on Wednesday -10%
by 12:00pm on Thursday -25%
by 12:00pm on Friday -50%
after 12:00pm on Friday -100%

Early or late assignments should be submitted in the same manner as assignments that are on time, unless you require special consideration. Assignments submitted for special consideration must be handed in directly to your instructor, or to the secretary in the main office (room SF-3302).

Missed midterm test

If you miss the midterm test, you will get a mark of zero unless you have informed your instructor beforehand and they have agreed that you may miss it. (If you miss the test because of illness or other circumstance completely outside of your control, check our Policy on special consideration for instructions on what to do.)

If we agree that you may miss the midterm test, there will be no make-up test. Instead, a mark will be computed to replace the missing mark, based on your mark on the final examination.
