General information

During the term, this webpage will contain a copy of the midterm test, as well as the solution, marking scheme, and marking comments for the test.

The midterm test will be closed book, last 50 minutes, and it will be held during regularly scheduled tutorial time -- see the Important Dates page for the exact test dates, and the Contact Information page for the list of tutorial sections.

You must attent the correct midterm test for the tutorial section that you are enrolled in, otherwise your test will NOT be marked! Each tutorial section will only have a limited number of copies of the test paper available (to minimize waste) and will be unable to accomodate extra students. If this is not possible, please contact your instructor immediately to make alternative arrangements.

The "20% rule"

We want to encourage you to be honest about what you know and what you do not know, because it's important for you to be aware of the level of your knowledge. For this reason, if you cannot answer a question on the midterm test or on the final exam and you write

I do not know how to answer this question.

(or something similar) in the space reserved for your answer, you will receive 20% of the marks for that question. You will not receive the 20% if you leave your answer completely blank, or if you write anything in addition to the sentence above, because neither of those cases show that you are aware of what you don't know. However, if you cross off an answer that you realized was wrong (so it will not be marked), and then write the sentence above, you will receive the 20%.

Note that it is certainly possible to get less than 20% on a question, if you write an answer that is mostly incorrect. Also note that this "20% rule" applies only to the midterm test and the final exam; it does NOT apply to quizzes.

Unfortunately, I do not have solutions for these tests, and I have no other tests available.
