COURTESY OF THE HAMILTON AVALANCHE LATE GOALS TRIP LADY AVALANCHE IN ‘HOME OPENER’ June 13, 2007 Hamilton, ON - Hamilton Lady Avalanche will have to come up big this weekend after dropping their ‘Home Opener’ against the Toronto Lady Lynx, 2-0. Former Avalanche striker Brittany Bisnott (Brampton, ON) scored the winning goal in the 85th minute, sliding the ball past a charging Rosanna Couture (Oakville, ON). Daniela Schwarz (Seuzach, SWI) scored the Lynx second goal on a penalty kick in the 90th minute. The Lady Avalanche dominated the scoring opportunities in the first half but could not find the back of the net. Michelle Edgar (St. Catharines, ON) had a great opportunity but was unable to close in on the ball before Lynx Keeper Justine Bernier (Oakville, ON) slid in to break up the chance. Later in the half, Nicole Jagt (Binbrook, ON) pounded a ball off the right post, as close as the Avalanche would get. Hamilton controlled the early part of the second half but, was unable to convert as Danya Barsalona (Stoney Creek, ON) was called offside four times in a row. Midfielder Chiara Greco (Hamilton, ON) was stoned by Bernier in the 72nd minute, shooting from 10 yards out. The Lady Avalanche played deflated after the initial goal by Bisnott and did not create another solid scoring opportunity. Both Bernier and Couture played an excellent game each facing 14 and 13 shots respectively. Hamilton will host the Ottawa Fury and Vermont Lady Voltage this week, an opportunity to delight their fans and gain six points in the standings. The Lady Avalanche will host Ottawa on Saturday, June 16 and Vermont on Sunday, June 17. Game times are 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Brian Timmis Stadium. Source: Michael P. Hall
