COURTESY OF THE HAMILTON AVALANCHE AVALANCHE CONTINUE SLIDE WITH LOSS TO LYNX May 30, 2007 Toronto, ON - The Toronto Lady Lynx opened the scoring at the 26th minute as Daniela Schwartz chested a Brittany Moore cross past Nicole Mercer and never looked back on their way to a 6 - 0 victory on ‘School Day.’ The loss leaves Hamilton 0 - 2 - 0 and still looking for their first goal of the season while the Lady Lynx sit first in the Northern Division with a 2 - 0 - 0 record. The match started slowly with Toronto controlling the ball on their own side of half and testing the Avalanche defence with a number of long passes up the pitch. Hamilton held strong until Schwartz knocked in the first goal. Three minutes later a wide open Stefania Morra pounced on a strike that caromed off the cross bar, scoring her first of the game. With the score 3 - 0, Morra would strike again, this time in extra time, heading a Moore corner kick to the back of the net. The Avalanche would trail 0 - 4 at the end of the first half. Both teams made a number of substitutions in the second half, including Rosanna Couture at Keeper for the Avalanche. Toronto played a more defensive game, hoping to maintain the four goal lead and extend it if the opportunity presented itself. Finally in the 81st minute Kate Qually was able to solve Couture, sending the ball just over top of the keeper’s outstretched arm. Heather MacDougall responded for Hamilton in the 83rd minute, unfortunately hitting the post. Former Hamilton player Brittany Bisnott closed the scoring when she put home her second of the year in the 85th minute. Coach Billy McKenna was disappointed with the play of his Hamilton squad saying, "I thought we gave a poor effort today, not something to be proud of." One bright spot for the Avalanche was the play of youngsters Kaitlyn Maclellan, Melanie Vanderkoop and Samantha Northrup. McKenna noted, "The younger ones played well today, gave a great effort." Justine Bernier earned the shutout for the Lady Lynx, her second consecutive clean sheet to start the year. Toronto has scored 13 goals in their first two games this season. The Lady Avalanche will hit the road on Saturday, June 2, 2007 when they play the Rochester Raging Rhinos. Game time is 7:35 p.m. at Paetec Park. Source: Michael P.
