COURTESY OF THE HAMILTON AVALANCHE June 25, 2006 - 05:00 PM -- Media Release For Immediate Release Hamilton Lady Avalanche Calm the Ottawa Fury June 25, 2006 Hamilton, ON - The Avalanche swept the Ottawa Fury 2-0. The Fury has not seen a loss since the 2005 playoffs. This game was a battle from the start with both teams fighting consistently hard bringing the ball back and forth well into the second half of the game without a score. The play was anything but dull. Hamilton tired from their tied game against the Laval Comets not even 24 hours earlier showed Ottawa no fatigue. The Fury did not anticipate the Avalanche strength and although strong in play could not match their first game of a double header weekend where they won 4-2 against the Rochester Rhinos. Coach Billy Mckenna made a brilliant decision at 67 minutes into the game to bring Heather MacDougall in. She went on to score the first goal at 84 minutes assisted by Chiara Greco. MacDougall then took an open straight away to finish the game at 90 minutes scoring with the assistance of Ashley Tirabassi. Hamilton’s defence worked hard as did Goalkeeper Stacey Vanboxmeer who saved 9 shots on goal by the Ottawa Fury. The Hamilton Lady Avalanche is a team within the USL W-League. The W-League is recognized as North America’s best women’s development organization. The W-League gives college players the chance to play along side of established professionals while maintaining their college eligibility. The next home game will be against the Rochester Rhino’s at Brian Timmis Stadium on Saturday July 15th at 7pm.
