COURTESY OF THE TORONTO LYNX For Immediate Release Toronto Lynx Game Report Lynx Win Streak Put to an End Date: July 11, 2006 Venue: Claude Robillard Stadium, Montreal, Quebec Attendance: 13 367 Kick Off Time: 7:30 PM EST Final Score: Toronto 0 Montreal 2 Match Summary: Mauricio Salles' two second half strikes put an end to the Toronto Lynx' two game win streak as the Montreal Impact defeated the Toronto Lynx 2-0 in front of 13 367 fans at the Claude Robillard Stadium in Montreal this evening. Toronto entered tonight's match full of confidence following two wins in their last two matches while Montreal was encouraged by their 1-0 defeat of the Lynx in Toronto exactly one month prior to today. Montreal came close to taking the lead in the 19th minute when Nevio Pizzolitto fed the ball into Daniel Antoniuk whose shot was well saved by Lynx goalkeeper Theo Zagar who came off of his line to make the stop. Montreal had another chance 9 minutes later. Mauro Biello crossed the ball, and it was Antoniuk who connected with ball again, sending his header just wide of Toronto's goal. Toronto's best chance of the half came four minutes from halftime when Jamie Dodds' free-kick from just outside the area eluded the wall but not Montreal 'keeper Andrew Weber who made a diving save to the right. The match was scoreless at the half. Montreal broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute. Leonardo Di Lorenzo sent the ball into second half substitute Mauricio Salles who ran down the left flank and fired a high shot from 25 yards out that beat Zagar and ended up in the top right of goal. Toronto went down 2-0 13 minutes later and it was Salles who proved to be the culprit again. He hit Mauro Biello's centering pass low and to the left past Zagar giving the Brazilian striker his second goal of the game after coming on in the 60th minute. Salles proved to be the only goal scorer on the night and it was 2-0 to Montreal at the final whistle. Toronto was out-shot 16-7 through 90 minutes of play. Tonight's result leaves Toronto with a record of 2-10-2 and leaves them in 12th position of the USL First Division. Toronto is next in action when they take on the Serbian White Eagles who sit in first place of the Canadian Soccer League's International Division for the Lynx' inaugural participation in the Open Canada Cup on Friday July 14th at 7:30 PM at Centennial Park Stadium.
