About The Author

[Photo of Dan Astoorian] Dan Astoorian was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, in 1969. From 1988 to 1992, he attended the University of Waterloo, where he fell in with the wrong element, i.e., the U of W Computer Science Club, where he served terms as Secretary, System Administrator, and President.

After graduating with a BMath in Computer Science (C&O minor) in 1992, he moved to Mississauga, where he spent three years as a systems programmer for the Allinson-Ross Corporation (now Inglenet Business Solutions).

In 1994, he teamed up with Bruce Becker and Jim Mercer to form CSAS (Computer Systems Administration Services), which performs the system administration for the Toronto Free-Net. In September 1995, he moved to Downsview.

In May 1996, he left CSAS and the Free-Net to become a system administrator for CSLab at the University of Toronto.

In January 1998, he grew a moustache for no apparent reason.

In June 1998, he attended the Usenix Association 1998 Technical Conference in New Orleans, and went a week early for a much-needed vacation with his Vancouver-based friends Wade Richards and Robyn Stewart.

In May 2000, he decided that he might perhaps finally be responsible enough to own property, and bought a penthouse condo in downtown Toronto.

As of October 2005, he will be moving from the Department of Computer Science to the Engineering Computing Facility.

He is not married, has no children, and does not live in Surrey.

In Memoriam:

Simon

Bert

On August 30, 2003, Simon, my pet rabbit of nearly ten years, was humanely euthanized at a Toronto veterinary clinic.

On October 5, 2004, Simon's (adoptive) sister Bert was also humanely euthanized.

Both rabbits were faithful companions who will be greatly missed by all who knew them.
