Tutorial sections

Your tutorial section is determined by the initial of your surname, as shown. Your tutor will tell you his or her name; please learn it. and you must attend the assigned tutorial. Tutorials begin the first week of classes.

What you need to buy

Read section 5 of the CSC148 Course Handbook, available in the bookstore, for a complete description of required and optional texts and other items. You will probably buy:

Office hours

You are welcome to attend any office hour regardless of your lecture or tutorial section. Lecturers' office hours are held in their offices at the times listed above; tutor office hours are held at the times marked ``OH'' in the table that follows. All tutor office hours are held in the computing lab in the Sigmund Samuel library.

Course notices

You are responsible for all announcements made in lectures. Make a friend in class and get their notes when you miss class. You are also responsible for all announcements posted on the course web site, located at

You will find extra copies of recent handouts on the corkboard in the hall outside SF 2302c. When handouts run out, you may make your own photocopy from the CSC148 course folder, on reserve in the Engineering Library (room SF 2402), or check the course web page.

Course grading scheme

To pass this course, you need a total mark of at least 50%, and you must achieve at least 40% on the final exam and at least 40% overall on the term mark (assignments plus mid-term tests).

Late policy for assignments

Assignments are due at 6:00 p.m. on the due date. The late policy for assignments is very strict, and is different this term from what is described in section 8.1 of the Course Handbook. See the web page for details on the new late policy.

Changing over to csc108

If you decide to change from CSC148 to CSC108, notify your CSC108 instructor. There are standard procedures for handling your tutorial, computing account, and assignments.
