Tutorial sections

Your tutorial section is determined by the initial of your surname as shown below, and you must attend the assigned tutorial. Please learn your tutor's name. Tutorials begin the first week of classes, and the early tutorials are particularly important this term.

Office hours

You are encouraged to attend any office hour regardless of your lecture or tutorial section. Lecturers' office hours are held in their offices at the times listed above; tutor office hours are held at the times marked ``OH'' in the table below. All tutor office hours are held in the computing lab in the Sigmund Samuel library.

Course notices

You are responsible for all announcements made in lectures. Make a friend in class and get their notes when you miss class. You are also responsible for all announcements posted on the course web site, located at

You will find extra copies of recent handouts on the corkboard in the hall outside SF 2302C. When handouts run out, you may make your own photocopy from the CSC148 course folder, on reserve in the Engineering Library (room SF 2402), or check the course web page.

Course grading scheme

The online homework can be done from the PC lab, and we encourage you to work on it in groups. You may be able to do it from home using your favourite web browser. See the course web page for details.

To pass this course, you need a total mark of at least 50%, and you must achieve at least 40% on the final exam and at least 40% overall on the term mark (assignments, online homework, and mid-term tests).

Late policy for assignments and online homework

Assignments are due at 6:00 p.m. on the due date (usually Thursdays), in the course drop boxes. The late policy for assignments is very strict. See section 8.1 of the Handbook for details, as well as the drop boxes' location. Online homeworks are due electronically at 4:00 p.m. on the due date (Fridays), and lates are not permitted.

Changing over to csc108

If you decide to change from CSC148 to CSC108, notify your CSC108 instructor. (You don't need to tell your CSC148 instructor.) There are standard procedures for handling your tutorial, computing account, and assignments.
