CSC 469F / CSC 2208F | Term Tests | Fall 2007

First Term Test

Wednesday, October 24, 4:10 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. noon, Location BA 2139

NEW: Sample Solutions to Test 1.

You are responsible for all the material covered in the lectures and tutorials, as well as the assigned readings. In general, treat the readings similar to assigned textbook chapters. That is, additional information on topics introduced and discussed in lecture. You should pay particular attention to the motivation and general approach to the problem described by the papers. As a rule, I would expect you to be able to summarize/discuss the main ideas of the paper, but not to recall specific results. (for example, the categorization of virtual machines in the "Operating system support for virtual machines" paper, and the techniques used to improve Type II VMs, but not the performance gain due to each technique in isolation, or the combined techniques overall.) You should also be able to relate papers to each other (for example, explain how the end-to-end argument applies to the design of a particular system).

See sample test for some ideas of the kinds of questions I might ask on the test, and last year's test for the questions I did ask last time.

You may also be interested in selected answers to the sample test, and the suggested solutions to last year's actual test. Of course, I recommend trying the questions first and then using the answers to check your understanding.

Second Term Test

Wednesday, December 5, 4:10 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Location BA 024

You are responsible for all material covered from Monday, October 22th to Wednesday, November 28th (inclusive).

Here is last year's test 2 for reference.

Better late than never, by request, here are the sample solutions to last year's test.
