The A3 marks are posted. The mark is made up of four parts:
We have also sent two emails to your CDF account. One message contains the A3 marking report and the other message contains the summary of your checkstyle results.
I will be holding office hours in BA4260 at the following times:
For St. George students, the submission deadline for Assignment 3 is extended to Thursday, April 7, at 9:00 a.m. (sharp!). Students wishing to use their grace day, who have not done so already will have until Friday morning by 9am. No work will be accepted after this Friday, which is the end of the term, except in the case of exceptional conditions, and any arrangements to do so must be approved by your professor in advance.
The Assignment 2 marks have been posted. I'll hand back the assignments in lecture on Friday.
Levon will be holding an A3 Help Session on Thursday, March 31st from 2-5pm in the Gerstein Science Centre (2nd floor lab).
The Friday labs are cancelled this week, because of Good Friday. The labs will be held as usual on Tuesday 9-11am and Thursday 11am-1pm. Those students who usually attend Friday labs are welcome to attend either the Tuesday or Thursday lab.
The labs are optional this week, so all students will get 1/1 for the lab whether you attend the lab or not. This lab is great practice with 2D-arrays, so it would be a good idea to try to attend.
The sample midterm solution is posted on the Tests page.
On Tuesday, March 1st from 2-5pm, one of the course TAs (Levon) will be available for help in the lab on the 2nd floor of the Gerstein Science Info Centre.
This is a great chance to get help with your assignment!
Yesterday's lecture and office hour were cancelled due to illness. To make up for the missed office hour, I will hold an extra office hour on Tuesday, Febrary 8th from 1-2pm.
Are you interested in a future research opportunity? Would you like to find out what your friends and classmates are up to?
Come to the Computer Science Undergrad Research Showcase on February 2nd at 4pm in BA1190.
Undergraduate students will be giving short presentations on the research they have done in CSC494, CSC491 and summer NSERC projects.
There will be a prize for the Best Presentation and refreshments will be provided.
An annoucement from the Computer Science Student Union (CSSU):
Where: BA 1210
When: Monday Jan. 31, 2:00 - 3:30
Refreshments: FREE coffee and cookies!
What: Come to our First Year Seminar and learn about what the CSSU does
for you, what you can get out of the CSSU, and what kinds of interesting
academic, social and work experiences await you as a student in the
Computer Science program! If you haven't already noticed, there will be
FREE refreshments served.
On Thursday, January 27th from 2-5pm, one of the course TAs (Levon) will be available for help in the lab on the 2nd floor of the Gerstein Science Info Centre.
This is a great chance to get help with your assignment!
For this week, all of the labs will be held in BA 2240. This may change if enrollment increases, so please check the annoucements a bit closer to the time to confirm your lab location.
Here is a list of things that you should do by the end of the first week of classes.
We use the CDF-PC environment of CDF, which is run by the Computer Science department. CDF-PC is exclusively for use by 1st year CS students. A computer account will be set up for you during the first week of term. You can look up your username on the CDF Username Lookup page. (If it says "No match" that means that it has not yet been created.) Your initial password is your student number.
When signing up for the bulletin board, you should use your CDF-PC username.
These announcements apply only to the St. George campus.
These are the course-wide announcements that apply to all three campuses.
It's on the Tests page.
Good luck!
You must add the method getInventory() to the
BookStore class. This method will make it easier for
you to test your other methods for this class.
Since this is a new requirement, I have provided the code for
you:
Assuming you have some instance variable for the inventory of books on
hand:
private String bookInventory;
The method is as follows:
/**
* Returns the inventory of the books on hand at the
* BookStore.
* @return the inventory of the books on hand as a String
*/
public Sring getInventory() {
return bookInventory; // or whatever you named this instance variable.
}
The submission deadline is extended to Thursday, March 10 at 9:00 a.m. (sharp).
This will give you time to create a more thorough set of test cases and to ensure that your code meets
the checkstyle standard. The time is
given due to the length of the assignment - it is recommended that you take advantage of every minute
that you get.
You can improve the quality of your assignment by minimizing style errors. An automated style checker is available and should be used in order to reduce style errors (and needless loss of marks!) Detailed instructions and information can be found here .
A sample A1 solution has been posted. We have also posted the A1 tester that we used to generate your "automark". To run the tester on your code in DrJava:
You can see exactly which tests your program failed.
Assignment 2 is posted on the Assignments page.
This is an outstanding opportunity for first-year students with high academic standing.
*** The deadline for applications is March 31, 2005. ***
The award:
The successful applicants will receive a one-time award of $US5,000 and an
expense-paid trip to visit Lucent/Bell Labs Global Headquarters in Murray Hill,
New Jersey to attend the "Lucent Global Science Scholars Summit" in July 2005
along with other competition winners from around the world. When possible, the
winner will be offered a paid summer internship.
Eligibility:
To be eligible, you must be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada
who is a full-time student in first year undergraduate study in:
computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a
specialized technical communications major. To see the full list of
requirements, visit the website below.
