Alejandro Vaisman
This is me I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I received a BA degree in Civil Engineering from  the University of Buenos Aires, and BA in Computer Science from the same university. I worked as a civil engineer in environmental projects from 1984 to 1994.  In 2001 I got my PhD in Computer Science from the University of Buenos Aires. My PhD thesis studied updates and time management in OLAP.  I have been teaching at the University of Buenos Aires from 1987. I have been an invited professor at the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid in 1997. In 1998 I joined the Systems Division  at the Universidad de Belgrano , Buenos Aires  (with a DBA position), where in 2001 I was appointed vice-dean of the School of Engineering and Information Technology.  In 2003 I joined the University of Toronto as a posdoctoral fellow, and lecturing the Data Management Systems course. After that, I returned to the University of Buenos Aires, lecturing the  courses on Fundamentals of Data Warehousing and Database Systems, and as Vice-Head of the Department of Computer Science, and Chair of the Graduate Program in Data Mining. During 2006 I was with the Computer Science Department of the University of Chile. In 2007 I  returned to the University of Buenos Aires. I am Chair of the Masters Program in Data Mining at the University of Buenos Aires, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, and Professor at the Computer Science Department, on leave until March, 2009 at the University  of Hasselt, working for the GeoPKDD project.

My research interests are: XML databases,  Semantic Web, OLAP and  Datawarehousing, Data Mining,  GIS  and Moving Objects databases.
