I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I received a BA degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Buenos Aires
(UBA), and BA in Computer Science from the same university. I worked as a civil engineer in environmental projects from 1984 to 1994. In 2001 I got my PhD in Computer Science from the University of Buenos Aires. My PhD thesis
studied updates and time management in OLAP. I have been teaching
at the
Computer Science Department at UBA, from
1987. I have been an invited professor at the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid in 1997. In 1998 I joined the Systems Division at the Universidad de Belgrano , Buenos Aires (with a DBA position), where in 2001 I was appointed vice-dean of the School of Engineering and Information Technology. In 2003 I joined the University of Toronto as a posdoctoral fellow, and lecturing the Data Management Systems course.
After that, I returned to the University of Buenos Aires, lecturing the courses on Fundamentals
of Data Warehousing and Database
Systems, and as Vice-Head of the Department of Computer Science. During 2006 I was
visiting reearcher at the
Computer Science Department of the
University of Chile. During 2008-2009
I was visiting researcher at the
University of Hasselt, working for the
GeoPKDD project. I Chaired the
Masters Program in Data
Mining at the University of Buenos Aires, Facultad de Ciencias
Exactas y Naturales from March 2005 to March 2010. I
am currently Asociate Professor at the Univeridad de la República,
Uruguay, at the
Institute of Computing. I am
also in charge of the
postgraduate professional program. My research interests are: Semantic Web, OLAP and Datawarehousing, Data Mining, GIS and Moving Objects databases, XML databases. |
