Welcome to the 1997-98 hockey season! This is my first message to the membership, but I can assure you that it won't be my last. The successes over the past several years combined with the tremendous popularity and publicity from last year's World Championship have served to increase the demands on our organization. Since we are faced with skyrocketing expectations for development and growth, we have spent a good deal of time over the summer with the league's business, to ensure a smooth start to the new year. I am prowd of the efforts and enthusiasm shown thus far by everyone on the new 1997-98 executive, as we usher in a new era in Women's Hockey leading up to the Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan in '98.
Over the summer significant changes have taken place. We believe that these changes will greatly benefit your daughters and the MGHL League, providing the foundation for future growth and development. Because we fund the Rep programme ice costs via Bingo, this year we switched to the Meadowvale Bingo at Battleford and Erin Mills Parkway. The expansion of our Rep Programmes from 10 to 14 teams necessitated the move from Bingo City.
We are also excited about our new Hockey Development Programme. We have dedicated and qualified personnel leading this project, under Dan Dednis, our Hockey Development Director. Detail for the programme will be forthcoming.
Al Dawson, General Manager of the Senior AAA Chiefs, is pleased to announce the new head coach, Tim Manastersky.
We have met with the City Recreation and Parks personnel regarding ice allocations. While every effort is being made to obtain all of the ice we require, there is still a shortage of prime time ice in our community. Flexibility and cooperation will be necessary, as we may not always have the opportunity for prime time ice allocation.
We welcome any comments, questions, or suggestions you have. Should you have any concerns, at any time during the season, please forward them, in writing, to an Executive's attention, for their consideration and acknowledgment.
As always, we are looking for volunteers in both the house league and rep programmes. If you can donate a few hours this season, please leave a message for Deb Kennedy, indicating the area you are interested in, at the Clubhouse number, (905)812-9382.
Yours in Women's Hockey,
Derek Williams

Dear Sponsor:

The MGHL will be expanding extensively, at all levels of competition. Play is scheduled for Mondays at the new Iceland Complex at Matheson and Kennedy
Our league is looking for sponsors for our teams. Sponsors play a major role in the success and growth of our youth. Being an MGHL sponsor is a very effective way for a business to institution to generate goodwill and visibility in our community.
If you have an interest in sponsoring our teams, please call for more information.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
