I am a 42 yr old "A" travel team ice hockey goalie. My daughter is a center and my husband is one of the coaches. I play four times a week. I look back and can see my progress in the sport. I started out when I was 38 yrs old has a goalie for my boys. They needed a goalie for their in-line game. In the HOT Texas sun I would sit in the goal net with a folding lawn chair and then when the ball rolled my way I'd kick the lawn chair down and stand in goal and block shots. Next spring our woman's team is looking towards a Canada tournament. I love the sport because of the speed. It is so fast if you make a mistake most people won't catch it. It is so new in Texas we are all learning it together. Thanks for the opportunity to let older women know it's not for just the young gals. Remmy Morris

I am hoping to get some Canadian/American womens teams over to compete. The next one is in January (Very soon) 26-28. It is a mixed comp but designed for the non elite Men. I figure you guys (girls) could come over and show our guys a thing or two. We could probably do some coaching camps with the likes of your self to alleviate some of the travelling costs. The next tournament is in July after January. Always someting happening and would be keen to get a travelling girls team over. Can you help, or put me in contact with someone who can assist? I coach her team, my son's team as well as run a goaltenders clinic for the Cole Harbour Minor Hockey Assoc. in NS. My question is how do I find a skull cap for a girl. Hey Andria! I'm from Tasmania - you know, the little Island state at the bottom of Australia! Although there are no women's hockey teams here, there are four chicks (Audrey, Katherine, Christine and me!) who play in mixed sex teams. I've played in Sydney too (at the beginning of last season) in female teams and really we have zero to complain about down here! We get to play hockey with filth people and miss out on half the bitchiness that often goes along with all girl teams. It goes off and I can't wait until next season! Our rink leaves a little to be desired - it's always carved up from figure skaters, public sessions or practice and is only big enough to have 3 players on ice plus a goalie! Oh well... at least we have ice.. and can turn sharper than bigger ice players! One of the girls, Audrey, has been selected to try out for the national team at 15! She's the best chick to skate with and has taught me heaps. I'm twenty, and totally respect her for motivation and determination.:) Playing a few games at Maquarie, Canterbury and Blacktown rinks was wicked.. smooth ice, big ice.. ice heaven! I haven't played since I moved back (halfway through last season) but I really appreciate the set up here, mixed teams, shitty ice and all! I just love hockey!!! Hi Andria! My daughter, Chelsea, plays on a girls 15U travel ice hockey team in Dallas. There are only two girls teams here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and it is so exciting to see girls hockey finally arriving here in Texas! Chelsea is 13 years old and loves to play hockey. She started playing in-line hockey in Las Vegas when she was 10. We moved to Texas last summer and she learned how to ice skate and play hockey. Her team will be playing in the Polar Bear Tournament next month. I'm not sure how well they will do since most our girls don't have a whole lot of experience under their belts - but we do have some fanatic players. The Bishop's Falls team started 3 years ago. This is my third year playing. I love it. I am twelve years old and for about 6 years I was a figure skater. Then one day while working on a double jump I injured my left landing knee. Unable to jump without pain or problems with swelling, I decided to take up hockey, so not to give up the ice. I started at the only rink in town as the only girl on any leagues, at that rink. Now at twelve I am playing on two all girl travel teams and having a blast. I think all girls should play this sport. It really builds self confidence and is excellent exercise. Womens ice hockey ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope some day to attend a college where I can play hockey, for the college. Until then, I will continue to enjoy the feel of the stick slapping the puck just right and gliding against the ice trying for the most sought after goal!

I am so awe struck by girls/women who play hockey, I have played sports all my life, I am 39 now. I wish hockey would of been a sport for girls back then. My niece plays and I love watching the game. I wish I could play too, but don't know how to skate, can do any other sport with no problem but trying to talk myself out of the fact that I think I am to old to start this. we are very isolated in thunder bay in some ways. it is 400 miles to the nearest teams in our category .this makes it very difficult for us to get games to qualify for the provincial tournament. for financial reasons we can only travel a couple of times a year, so we appreciate the infomation you publish about tournaments. i would like to know why teams in manitoba and minnesota wont come to our tournaments?we would reciprocate of course. shouldn't we all be trying to help one another to promote the womens game wherever it exists? we would appreciate hearing from our neighbours. perhaps we could arrange some exhibition games. meet halfway perhaps?

Do you know that you are just about the only if not THE only source for women's hockey enthusiasts online as near as I can tell? Keep up the good work. I played ice hockey as a kid (I've had skates on since soon after I was born) but for about 10 years barely skated at all. At 23 I moved to New York City and was recovering from a broken heart and my Mom knew just what I needed when she bought me some sweet K2 rollerblades. I went "Oh yeah... I'd forgotten... I was born to skate!" I started skating everyday at least 10 miles in Central Park and even played a lot of street hockey. Now I live in the Las Vegas desert and I'm hoping to find some women who play ice hockey. I'm only 29 and I'd like to play competitively. I was really inspired by some Canadian ladies I saw once who are in their 70's and 80's and still get together and play twice a week. Not for a tournament or anything... any way, girls who play hockey are my heroes, so that includes you. You never saw girls playing hockey on TV when I was a kid. Hoorah for us!

Hey, I am a 17 year old girl from Washington and I've played hockey for 4 years with a girls team. This will be my first year with the guys midget house team and with the newly forming Eastern Washington Girls Select Team. My dad got me interested in hockey when he started taking me to minor league games when I was 4. I was so mezmerized. I am a female who loves the game of ice hockey. I started out playing at home on an all guys team. I was one of the starters, and now I am missing it greatly. I can't play at college unless I were to walk-on to our guys team. At the college level, the players hit much harder. I work with the team and sometime skate practices with them, but during games I have seen some of our best players take a hit and come off of the ice winded.

Andria, I am a fourteen year old female ice hockey player. I pretty much started playing hockey after watching my 2 brothers play. I loved the game as soon as I first saw it. I have been in several tournaments and played on 2 teams. I now, since starting high school, am joining my school team. However since I was a girl i had to get approved. My gym teacher and doctor had to write a letter saying i was physically fit, then i was held for questioning by the man who runs the sports at school, and then i was placed in a front of a Board and questioned more. I didnt think it was fair since the boys didnt have to do this. I was approved but i feel it still isnt enough. I have been rejected from the A team because they do not want me to get hurt! I am a great player(i am not bragging) but i am really good and now have to play with younger less skilled kids. Being a girl still isnt easy in sports. Wish me the best of luck! I have been researching women's hockey for no better reason than most of the information I have managed to dig up on the history of women's hockey has only left me with about a million more questions about it. The information provided is generally thumbnail in nature and intended only as a footnote to NHL history. A good example: A recent hockey almanac mentions that in the early part of the twentieth century, women hockey players wore long woolen skirts and that the goaltenders sewed buckshot into the hems to keep them hanging to the ice. Which leaves me asking: Was this done for the sake of modesty, or so the other team couldn't shoot goals through the goalie's legs? I am also seeking more information on Abigail Hoffman, for no better reason than what little information I have found on her leaves me wanting to know more. Also, the reason I found your site in the first place is because I am seeking details of the USA women's team contract dispute with USA Hockey and I can't find any. After 2 years of thinking about playing hockey I finally got the chance to buy a pair of hockey roller blades to start. Started playing roller hockey 3 yrs ago at 40 - Hey it is never too late! Recently, have gotten into ice hockey. I LOVE the sport. If I had another life to live - I'd try to go for PRO! We want to see you not only receive the exposure you deserve, but be placed in a situation that is both challenging and fulfilling, while moving you forward in your hockey career. Our staff has designed a system for coaches to be able to track the progress of players that are two or three years out. It is a tool that players, parents and coaches need to know about. There is a full time staff working around the clock to ensure this recruiting website provides exposure to both players and coaches. Using state of the art technology players are able to update their player profile at any time and anywhere in the world. You may also attach photos and streaming video of you playing to your resume. Coaches find the Auto-Notify tool to be most useful. If you are a coach, you can set up the criteria you want to find in a player. When a player enters the system meeting the coaches’ criteria, an email notifying the coach that a player has entered the system will be automatically sent to his mailbox. Let me show you an example of how this works: A coach may be looking for only Left handed Junior “A” Defensemen over 200 pounds. The coach sets these criteria up in the Auto-Notify Profile and when any Left handed 200+ pound Junior “A” Defensemen enter the system, the coach is notified via email. Some other advantages you will find as a player will include the ability to send resume to coaches and teams directly from the website. As a coach I know that many of my players found me before I found them. I encourage you to spend your time and efforts promoting your hockey career online and offline. You will understand the importance of networking only after you look back on your playing days. Your playing days will end someday and all you will have left are the memories and friendships you created along the way. Whatever you do, make sure you don’t hold back on your dreams because your memories will never end! “For some the dream is to play in the NHL. Boise, Idaho, is far away from the rinks of the east but hockey is thriving here. I play on womens travel team and manage a girls team. We are hoping to encourage more girls to try hockey and more women to stick with the sport. My oldest daughter plays on a boys travel team and suffers gripes from everyone: Why are you playing with the boys and not us(the girls)?, Why don't you just go play with the girls(some parents of boys)!,Did you know you are too young to play on the womens' team( from women who don't like the extra competition)? Great site, I just started playing hockey earlier this year, nothign like waiting till your mid 30's to play but I am really enjoying it. My husband players over 35 hockey and is a goalie, with him playing very often 4-5 nights per week in the winter and our son who is 7 and starting his fourth season I just couldn't sit in the stands any longer I wanted to get out and give it a try and I am glad I did.
