"FINALLY" I play on a Senior womens team in the WOAA. Our team plays out of Owen Sound, Ontario. Last year was our first year as a team, and we placed second in our division. I became a level 1 coach for our team, however as I am new to the sport one of our other players does the actual coaching. We have a husband of one of our players that coaches Boys Jr.A. and has been helping us out quite regularly. I also play on a pickup team that were finalists (Spring 98) at the hockey tournament put on by the Womans Hockey Club of Toronto. This is a great web site and I will pass it on to many of my friends. Perhaps from that a sponsor will come. "As they say if you build it, they will come." Today is January 4, 1998 and according to your "visits" I am 39,351 and it appears that is from January, 98. Sounds Successful to me. Bugged our Hockey Director to start a womens clinic and went from there to 1 year later having a weekend tournament of womens only teams B and C level. Then moved to Orlando and found not much available for us here. Starting from ground up again. He said today that in England, the off-side rule no longer applies, making the game faster and more challenging. Being a South African Hockey Coach, who qualified as a Grade IV Hockey Coach a few years ago, I am not aware of this rule changing. It would be nice to find out information about teams that are on the recreational level (in other words, old, out of shape (slower than they used to be) but still hanging in there. It all started with three friends chirpin' at a UNH mens game about how are husbands play, our kids play, we watch the UNH games...WE WANT TO PLAY! By the third period we had the woman who organized the ice time at our local rink, wanting to play and another women had her sons Bantam coach committed to coaching us. So two days later there was 15 of us on the ice not even knowing how to stop! Now we have 75 women participating and so many heart warming, histerical stories to tell. We're starting to look like we're playing hockey! We love having the UNH womens team right here to inspire us! We had a clinic with Karen Bye, Coleen Coin, Sue Mertz and Trish Dune, I think they got a chuckle out of watching us!
