Title: The One Laptop Per Child Project Speaker: Mike Fletcher, VRPlumber Consulting Abstract: The One Laptop Per Child project is an educational initiative that is attempting to bring access to vast bodies of knowledge and opportunities to the children of the world who would otherwise have little or no access. To accomplish this end, the project is producing the most advanced laptop computers on the planet and selling them at cost to the countries of the world. For about the cost of 5 years of textbooks the children will receive not just textbooks, but tools for expression, experimentation and communication. We will explore the laptop's educational philosophy, the problems it attempts to address, the innovative hardware that makes the solution possible and the system software and applications that will run on the platform. We will also give an update on the current state of the project and how you can get involved.
