The purpose of this design is to improve throughput and fairness for all the nodes of a wireless network. Various suggestions are made in the paper and the effect of this suggestions are investigated using a network simulator. These suggestions include different changes in backoff algorithm form trying to smooth the increment or decrement of backoff counter to exchange the backoff counter between users. Changes in backoff algorithms definitely leads to fairness improvement. In addition, there are some change in signaling. The first change is to add ACK to the basic algorithm to obtain RTS-CTS-DATA-ACK which means acknowledgement must be sent from receiver after it receives data. Next step is adding DS to previous algorithm to obtain RTS-CTS-DS-DATA-ACK. It is also showed that RRTS (Request for Request to Send) is helpful in some cases. These changes also helps a lot for fairness improvement in different scenarios. In another scenario, it is shown that each station must maintain a separate backoff counter for each stream. It is shown that per-destination backoff counter leads to throughput improvement. The paper seems valuable since it has examined a relatively large number of scenarios , and also investigated these situations with simulator. Although, it is shown that wireless networks are quite complex and we must consider several cases in this type of algorithms. Moreover, it seems that the definition of fairness in wireless networks with multiple nodes is a concept that must be thought more profoundly.
