The Making of A Bug's Life -- An Epic of Miniature Proportions Bill Reeves Pixar (NOTE: Please note the unusual day, time, and location: Monday, 4:15pm, refreshments at 3:45pm MS 2158, also known as the J.R. Mcleod Auditorium) ABSTRACT The animated film "A Bug's Life" will be one of the highest grossing films of 1998 and one of the highest rated by critics and the public alike. Fundamental to its success was its empha- sis on a great story and strong characters. But underlying this, A Bug's Life was groundbreaking in its utilization of computer animation and computer technology. This talk will take us behind the scenes in the making of A Bug's Life. In particular, we'll examine how computer technology was used, where it worked, and where it didn't.
