Under the pretext of being a surgeon, he gained the entry to

fabricate a story of medical experience. Since he was so adroit
at lying, he got away with it. It was not until the "phony"
doctor gesticulated his scalpel wildly that a vigilant nurse
was able to detect the fraud. In the annals of medicine, there are
a number of such cases.
