Research Interests and Projects

In general, I am interested in management of data, information and knowledge using computers. More specifically, my topics of interest include

  • Data Management and Information Systems
    • Data modeling and Conceptual database design
    • Metadata Management and Data Semantics
    • Web Information Systems
  • Quality Concerns in Data Management
    • Data quality assessment
      • Metrics for data quality
      • Data mining for data quality
    • Data profiling and cleaning
    • Design for higher quality data
    • Data privacy and security
    • Application-driven data quality (e.g., marketing, e-Business, healthcare, clinical research, bioinformatics)
  • Knowledge Management
    • Semantic Web
    • Semantic Wiki (e.g., SMW)

My current research focuses on development and evaluation of a goal-oriented design methodology for higher quality data in relational databases, based on the techniques that have been developed in goal-oriented approaches to software requirements engineering and design (e.g., i* and Tropos).

In the past, I have also worked on following P2P data mangagement and knowledge management projects
