Welcome to the CSC340 Webpage -- Winter 2004!

This World Wide Web server has been established to provide general information and online resources about the course titled "Information Systems Analysis and Design", offered during the Winter term of 2004 by the Department of Computer Science, at the University of Toronto .

The title bar graphic at the top is a button, pressing it will always bring you back to the Department's home page.

Course Description

The course covers requirements analysis and design techniques for information systems using the Unified Modeling Language (UML). Requirements analysis consists of two phases: a feasibility study and a requirements specification phase. For design, the topics covered include architectural design, database design, and user interface design.

This is a pragmatic course. The techniques taught are by-and-large heuristics that have been shown to improve the quality of an information system, and reduce the time it takes to complete it. Because of its pragmatic nature, the course concentrates on apprenticeship techniques where students work in groups on an actual information system problem.
