Objectives
The main objective of the KMLab is to conduct research and knowledge transfer
in the general area of KM, focusing on techniques and (software) tools
which support the acquisition, representation, retrieval, analysis, and
evolution of knowledge. Other secondary objectives of the Lab are:
-
Training of highly qualified personnel (graduate students, research associates
and visitors);
-
Identification of research problems and knowledge transfer of research
results through consultation with BCE's tchnical teams working on related
technologies and services (such as the Virtual Campus project);
-
Collaboration with other researchers in related areas (such as the University
of Toronto Persona Laboratory, the University of Toronto Knowledge Media
Design Institute, or the University of Waterloo Data Management Laboratory);
-
Collaboration with researchers from the social and cognitive sciences who
specialize on the evaluation of technologies and the study of how knowledge
is produced and used by organizations, groups and individuals;
The lab is intended to create the shared infrastructure required to efficiently
and effectively address subsequent proposals for projects with specific
targets.
